Reconnaissance and Design Department of Chongqing Communications Research and Design Institute (CCRDI) is a department specializing in reconnaissance and design as well as consultation in highway and municipal engineering. It consists five teams respectively in engineering consultation, highway design, municipal engineering design, bridge and culvert design, and reconnaissance, and an office of staff affairs.

This department is mainly engaged in planning, feasibility researching, reconnaissance and designing, technical consulting in high-grade expressway, urban highway and regional highway network.Equipped with GPS, dynamic location apparatus, aerial map, etc., this department has the integrated technology of data acquisition, highway and bridge CAD systems as well as grade separation. Besides, it has special software in special sub-grade treatment design and macrostructure analysis.With abundant experiences in reconnaissance and design of high–grade expressway, especially in mountainous areas, this department has its unique design style and technical preponderance.
